Who you can vote for

Elections will be held on Thursday 7 May 2026 for the new East Surrey Council and West Surrey Council, which are being created as part of Surrey’s local government reorganisation.

The search tool below shows the candidates standing for election in your ward. Candidate nominations include the name of each candidate and whether they represent a political party.

  • East Surrey Council covers Elmbridge, Epsom & Ewell, Mole Valley, Reigate & Banstead and Tandridge.
  • West Surrey Council covers Guildford, Runnymede, Spelthorne, Surrey Heath, Waverley and Woking.

Voters will be able to vote for up to two councillors in their ward. There are 72 seats across 36 wards for East Surrey Council and 90 seats across 45 wards for West Surrey Council.

We are unable to publish additional information about candidates, such as manifesto details or links to political party websites. Candidates may campaign locally to explain why they should be elected, and you may be contacted by them in a number of ways, including by post, phone or home visits.

In some areas, local by‑elections for existing county, district or borough council seats are also taking place on Thursday 7 May 2026. These elections are separate from the East Surrey and West Surrey Council elections, but details of the candidates standing in these by-elections are included in the same search tool.  Some areas also have Neighbourhood Planning Referendums and/or Parish council elections.
